A sports-centric region honors its best
Richmond is a region known for sports! In celebration of those who bring their best to the game and to the region, the Richmond Region Tourism Foundation presents the RVA Sports Awards Presented by Colonial Downs® & Rosie’s Gaming Emporium®. This area-wide awards show recognizes those athletes and leaders who have made a major impact on their community through sports.

Jackie Joyner-Kersee will serve as the headline speaker at the fourth annual RVA Sports Awards show. Joyner-Kersee's achievements include three Olympic gold medals, four World Outdoor Championships gold medals and the still-standing world record of 7,291 points in the women's heptathlon.

She is a four-time Olympian, who won the long jump gold medal in 1988, and long jump bronze in 1992 and 1996. In Olympic heptathlon competition she won the silver medal in 1984 and the gold medal in 1988 and 1992. She continues to hold the Olympic and national records in the long jump and her 1994 performance in the long jump remains the second longest in history. 

Thanks to the determination and dedication of our local teams and individuals, the RVA Sports Awards show the world that Richmond is the region of champions – a place where the healthy values of sports are lived every day. Congratulations to all of the 2024 winners!
